Steven Lay, age 42 of Monroe, died at 10:52 a.m. in his home after a ten month battle with cancer.
Family and friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. with a birthday celebration at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Rupp Funeral Home where services will be held at 10 a.m Friday. Rev. Bob Kundrat will officiate, followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Born February 9, 1974 in Monroe, he is the son of Eddie J. and Terri (Kundrat) Lay and married Katie M. Spencley on December 17, 2016.
Steven worked for Johnson Controls in Monroe for eight years and was a proud member of U.A.W. Local 723. He was a big fan of all local sports teams, especially the Detroit Tigers, often attending games with family, and the U of M Wolverines. Also, Steven was an avid fantasy football and baseball player. Most of all, he loved being a father to his two daughters, Amanda and Natalie, frequently taking them on wagon rides to the park.
Steven is survived by his wife, Katie; two daughters, Amanda and Natalie Lay of Monroe; his parents, Eddie J. Lay and Terry (Clint) Lay, both of Monroe; one brother, James E. (Liesha) Lay of Monroe; five nieces, Karah Bowman, Marnie Cobb, Claire Lay, Lily Cobb and Elise Cobb, all of Monroe; and two nephews, Cole Bowman and Johnathan Cobb, both of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Trula Lay and George and Eda Kundrat.
