Maurice B. “Morey” Janssens

MoreyMaurice Basil “Morey” Janssens, age 77 of Monroe, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.

Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Rupp Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. He will lie in state at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. David Burgard. Cremation with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Born May 7, 1940 in Monroe, Morey was the son of the late Gustave and Helen (Jarosz) Janssens. He married Anna Marie Roth on October 6, 1962 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ida. He later married Sandy Goodnough on November 2, 1998 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Morey was a graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School and member of St. John Catholic Church and UAW Local 14. He worked at the GM Powertrain Plant in Toledo, retiring in January of 1995 after 34 years of employment. In addition, he and his wife Marie founded and operated the Grape Pantry on N. Custer Rd. Morey enjoyed traveling, U of M football, and was an avid race car fan, especially NASCAR.

JanssensMorey is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Ron) Kaplan of Kettering, Ohio; five siblings, Richard (Mary Jane) Janssens of Monroe, Leo (Bev) Janssens of Ocklawaha, Florida, Gus (Pat) Janssens of Monroe, Jerry (Diane) Janssens of Monroe, and Jan (Thomas) Monday-Chulski of Monroe; four grandchildren, Alex, Zach, Maxwell, and Mitchell; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Morey was also preceded in death by a son Jeffrey M. Janssens, and a brother, Marion Janssens.
