Joan K. Van Slambrouck

    Van SlambrouckJoan K. Van Slambrouck, age 83 of Monroe, died 6:50 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at University of Michigan Medical Center.

    Friends may visit from 3 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Rupp unreal Home where the Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.  Services on Friday will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. followed by procession to St. Michael Catholic Church where Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m.  The church pastor, Rev. Stephen Vileo will officiate.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

    Born January 6, 1931 in Monroe, she was the daughter of Peter and Susanne (Brauns) Mushung.  She married John F. Van Slambrouck on June 28, 1952 in St. Michael Church.

    Joan was a member of St. Michael Church and was an avid bowler, but mostly she was a devoted wife and mother.

    Joan is survived by: husband John; 6 children, Jack (Mary) Van Slambrouck of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Joel (Michelle) Van Slambrouck of Portland, Michigan, James (Lynn) Van Slambrouck of Monroe, Jeffry (Gail) Van Slambrouck of Lambertville, Jann (Brad) Speidel of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Jerome Van Slambrouck of LaSalle; 5 brothers, Frederick Mushung of Monroe, Robert Mushung of Vero Beach, Florida, Jhn “Jack” (Jean) Mushung of Monroe, David (Beverly) Mushung of Monroe, and Charles (Elaine) Mushung of Monroe; sister, Elaine Mushung of Monroe; 29 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

    Joan was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Vanessa Van Slambrouck.

    Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Uncle John and the entire family Aunt Joan leaves behind. I know they are all missing her terribly. She she is in loving arms. We miss you and we let you go.

    We were saddened to hear of Aunt Joan’s passing but know she is blessed above. Aunt Joan will be greatly missed and our hearts go out to you at this difficult time. On thing I will always remember about Aunt Joan is the twinkle she had in her eyes, especially when she was smiling.
