Rose Mary Zochowski, 83 of Carleton, was reunited with the Lord surrounded by family and friends in her home on Wednesday.

Friends may call from 5 – 9 p.m. Thursday and 1 – 9 p.m. Friday at Rupp Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday evening.  She will lie instate 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Church, Carleton until service at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.

Born October 11, 1928 in Monroe, she was the daughter of August and Lena (Rivard) Wickenheiser.  She married Julian Zochowski October 30, 1948 at St. Patrick’s.  They raised two foster children, Penny Gendron and Joan.  He died May 12, 1995.

Educated at St. Patrick Elementary School, she was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary Academy and also earned a nursing certificate.  She worked for lawyer, Mr. McCormick and Dr. Tomlinson.  She enjoyed years as a 4H Leader and serving on St. Patrick’s Altar Society.  She ran Grandma Z’s Daycare for 20 years with help from daughters Elizabeth and Alice.  She cared for and touched the lives of many children. 

An excellent baker, everyone raved about her pies, desserts and cinnamon rolls (a gift for new neighbors).  Vacations included family and friends enjoying the natural beauty of our national parks.  Sharing 45 years of faith with the Comboni Missionaries, serving on their auxiliary, hosting scholastics and priests, celebrating masses in her home.  IHM Sisters were regulars.  Visiting Ireland, Italy, Canada, Medjugorje, Mexico, and Africa experiencing the missionary life.

Rose Mary had an open door policy.  She welcomed exchange students from France. Brazil, Germany, and Ukraine, and hosted many Japanese into her home with a warm heart and a mischievous sense of humor. 

Loved life, unselfishly sharing hers, bestowing the warm gift of hugs to all.

Surviving are sons Gregory (Ellen Frances) Zochowski, Thomas (Cathy) Zochowski, Robert (Anne) Zochowski, and Michael Zochowski; daughters Kathryn (Jay) Novak, Patricia (Joseph) Mikulsky, Janet (Gary) Brant, Alice (Craig) Deland, Barbara (Brian) DeGrande, Elizabeth (Tom Cozart) Menard, and Mary (Joseph) Hypio; siblings Cletus (Pauline) Wickenheiser, Herman (Elaine) Wickenheiser and Rita Zochowski; grandchildren Peter Zochowski, Katherine Zochowski, Melissa Zochowski, Eric (Jo) Zochowski, Paul (Kristy) Zochowski, Danielle Zochowski, Stephanie Zochowski, Jennifer (Chris) Johnston, Sarah (Shane) Nolff, Elizabeth (Dane) Snyder, Jacob Mikulsky, Rachel Mikulsky, Jessica (Andy) Benson, Nicholas Brant, Alexander Brant, Joshua (Rose Modica) Deland, Timothy (Sarah Weiss) Deland, Nicole DeGrande, Kathryn DeGrande, Matthew (Ashleigh) Menard, Michelle Menard, Michael (Melanie) Menard, Nicholas Zochowski, Rochelle Zochowski, Samantha Hypio, Sydney Hypio, and Steven Hypio; 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Rose Mary was preceded by brothers Lawrence and Earl; sisters Clara Joblinski, Teresa Reaume, Agnes Vandevelde; son-in-law Roch Menard; granddaughter Olivia Zochowski.

Memorials may be made to Comboni Missionaries, Mercy Memorial Hospice or St. Patrick Church.

She was a very strong woman and always had a great sense of humor. She always knew how to put a smile on the faces of others and she will never be missd.
