Leona S. Bruck, 76, went to be with her Lord on February 12, 2012, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor.  She was ill for three months.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 15th at Rupp Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.  She will lie in state at 10 a.m. Thursday February, 16th at St. Joseph Church, Maybee with a Mass celebrating her life at 11 a.m.  Rev. Rich Luberti will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Maybee.

Leona was born February 22, 1935 in Dearborn, to Lawrence and Vernice (Wright) Esper.

She attended St. Patrick grade school and graduated from St. Mary Academy in 1953.  Leona worked at Anderson’s Drug Store in Carleton.  She married John J. Bruck April 23, 1960 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carleton.

Leona was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  For many years she helped her husband on the family farm and later, she worked for Monroe County Opportunity Program (MCOP).

She was an active member of St. Joseph Church, Maybee, their Little Flower Guild and weekly Rosary Group.

Leona enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to her grandchildren’s school activities and taking trips up north with her husband.  Leona also enjoyed working in her flower garden and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, John; her five children, Lisa (Mark) Lange of Maybee, Anne (Robert) Fleming of Monroe, Al (Cecilia) Bruck of Northville, Larry (Michele) Bruck of Monroe and Mary E. (Art) Ringel of Lyons, Ohio; twelve grandchildren; David (Alison) Lange of Monroe, Jenna Lange, Ben, Emily and Rebecca Fleming, Allie and Simonne Bruck, Jacob, Sophie and Elena Bruck, Joseph and Analese Ringel and one great grandchild, Mark David Lange.  She is also survived by four brothers, Lawrence (Elaine) Esper of Carleton, Leo (Mary Ann) Esper of Carleton, Ronald (Janet) Esper of Monroe, and Alan Esper of Ypsilanti and sister-in-law Alice Esper of Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents Vernice and Lawrence; three brothers, Frank, Lewis and Don Esper; three sisters, Betty Esper, Sr. Delrose Esper SSJ and Mary Lou Pluff and a brother-in-law, Edgar Pluff.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, Maybee.

I am so sad to hear about Leona's passing. She was such a great lady. I wasn't suppose to ever become friends with people I supervised when Leona worked for me but that was a rule I broke. How could you ever not want to be friends with someone like her. The people she helped absolutely loved her. My sympathy to all of you.
