David W. Cox

April 4, 1949 – February 11, 2012

   David W. Cox, 62, of Monroe died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Memorial Hospital.

   Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Lawrence Detruf, pastor of the First Church of God will officiate. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

   Born April 4, 1949 in Monroe he was the son of Daniel and Betty (Word) Cox. He married Theresa L. Bressler on May 7, 1966 in Monroe. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2003.

   David was a truck driver for E & L Transport, Wayne, Michigan and a member of Teamster Local 299 Detroit. He attended Jefferson High School.

   Surviving are his children Gary A. (Kim Hoffman) Cox of Valrico, Florida, Barbara L. Ray of Newport and Brenda L. West of Monroe; brother Joe T. Cox of Monroe; grandchildren Elizabeth K. (Tom) Bowden of Houston, Texas, John C. West II, Reginald D. J. West, Kenneth W. Ray and Emily K. Ray all of Monroe; loving companion Ann M. Calderon and her children and grandchildren Robert (Melissa Pratt) Calderon, Lillian and Chloe of Lincoln Park, Angela (Bernard Robinson) Gomez, Marcos, Salina, Tony and Nate of Taylor; father and mother in law William and Isabelle Bressler of Monroe, brother-in-law Michael A. Bressler, sister-in-laws Kathleen K. Bressler, Rosemarie (Henry) Meyer; nephew Thomas (Karla) Meyer, Niece Carrie (William) Beaudrie and five great nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, wife,sister Rose A. Cox and brother-in-law William Bressler Jr.

   In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to God Works Food Pantry.

David was in our wedding in 1969 and was also a 1967 classmate at JHS. Although life took us all in different directions, we just know that the pleasing personality and gentle demeanor we loved about David was part of what you loved and will miss about him.
