John Frank Marchese, Sr.

Sept. 19, 1924 – Feb. 5, 2012

John Frank Marchese, Sr., age 87 of Mio, Michigan, formerly of Monroe, died 6:15 p.m. Sunday in his home.  He had been ill for sometime and under hospice care for two weeks.

Friends may call from 1 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m.  John will lie instate 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m.  Rev. William Fisher will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery under the auspices of Monroe Post 1138 Veteran’s of Foreign Wars.

Born September 19, 1924 in Monroe, he was the son of Casper and Mary (Connoe) Marchese.  He married Ina Kidd October 19, 1944 in Monroe.  She died October 25, 1978.

John proudly served in the United States Army during WWII.  He was wounded and lost his right leg while fighting for his country.  He earned the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1943.

John was employed by Monroe Auto Equipment of Monroe and Dura Corporation in Adrian, retiring in 1986.  He later moved to Mio where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

John is survived by four children, Ronald (Vicki) Marchese of Monroe, John (Julie) Marchese, Jr. of Mio, Christy (Clifford) Arnold of Guyton, Georgia, and James Marchese of Flat Rock; three brothers, Casper (Madeline) Marchese, Richard (Mary) Marchese, and Donald (Cathy) Marchese, all of Monroe; three sisters, Francie Vukovich, Catherine St. Bernard, and Josephine Williamson, all of Monroe; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Ina, John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Margaret Winters, Mary Barber and Rose Patterfritz, brothers, James and Tony Marchese and a grandson.
