Basil Sitto, 65 of Monroe, died at 7 a.m. Saturday at University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor. He had been in poor health since June 2009.
Friends may call from 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. He will lie instate 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Jim Smalarz, pastor will officiate and interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Born May 2, 1945 in Mosul, Iraq, he was the son of Simon and Warana (Najor) Sitto.
He has been the owner and operator of the Monroe Liquor Plaza since August 1985.
Basil came to the United States in 1961 and is a member of St. John the Baptist Church and the Monroe Club. He enjoyed playing cards, cooking, gardening and all television sports but most of all he loved gathering with family and friends to have a good time. He enjoyed being with people and was a genuine person.
Surviving is his longtime companion and soul mate Barbara A. Hemry and her daughter Brooke Hemry, sons Christopher J. Sitto of Monroe; Lawrence C. (Darlene) Sitto of Ida and Neal S. (Amanda) Sitto of Monroe; daughter Bethany J. (Ryan Black) Sitto of Ypsilanti; brothers Paul (Lori) Sitto of Farmington Hills and Emil Sitto of West Bloomfield Hills; sisters Violet (Ramsey) Yousif of Troy; Kamila Sitto of Farmington Hills and Hedil (Saad) Habba of Farmington Hills; grandchildren Sydney Sitto, Jerick Sitto, Drew Sitto, Nicklas Black, Aiden Black and Kyndal Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two bothers, Semir and Joseph Sitto; and a sister Caroline Hado.
