Robert H. Haynes, 80 of Newport, died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday in his home. He had been in poor health for three months. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Lawrence Detruf, pastor of the First Church of God will officiate and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Born December 16, 1929 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was the son of J. W. and Helen (Hadix) Haynes. He married Elsie A. Garrison on December 16, 1988 in Hawaii. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2002. Robert was a millwright with local 1102 and retired from General Motors, Detroit. He was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Surviving are his children, Gloria (Rick) Estes of Newport; Greg (Cindy) Haynes of Monroe, Bonnie Sciba of Ortonville and Jimmie (Sharon) Holderness of Mikado, Michigan; brothers Leroy Oberhelman of Council Bluffs, Iowa and John Haynes of Melvindale, Michigan; sisters Joan Yoakum of Raleigh North Carolina, Rodna Nelson of Sunland, California and Norma Sarten of Council Bluffs, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Elsie, he was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
