Catherine C. Barton

Catherine C. Barton, 77 of Newport, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Alice Loraine Care Center.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rupp Funeral Home.  She will lie instate at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Church with a Mass celebrating her life at 11 a.m.  Rev. Victor Roman, pastor of the church, will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery.

Catherine was born February 8, 1935 in Maybee, she was the daughter of Aloysius and Eleanor (Wess) Bruck.  She married Charles Barton September 17, 1960; he preceded her in death in July 2011.

She had worked at Gruber’s and she was a teacher’s aid for Jefferson Schools at Sodt Elementary School for 20 years, retiring in 1996.

She was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, a member of Jefferson Band Boosters for several years and a member of St. Charles Church, Newport, she also had taught in their religious education program and helped with the annual festival.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Krista) Barton of New Hudson, John (Linda) Barton of Middleville; a daughter Jill (Ken) Ranger of Newport; a brother, John Bruck of Maybee; four sisters, Jane (Herbert) Thoma, Mary (Roy) Donnelly, Betty (Dale) Riddle all of Monroe and Sr. Leona Bruck OP of Temperance and six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katelyn, Hannah and Nicholas Barton and Maria and Max Ranger.

In addition to her husband, she in preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel Barton and a sister, Lou Anne D’Haene.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe or St. Charles Church.

Mom would tell how Cathy would take her to the grocery store "Park and Save" many times since she could not drive. Our families were the only ones that lived on Toll Road and we depended on each other many times. She will be greatly missed.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We are going to miss your mother. She was a very kind lady with a great sense of humor. We always enjoyed her company when we made it back to visit; especially sitting around the campfires together entertaining each other with stories and our made up songs that would get her laughing.

We wish we could be with you right now. It bothers us terribly! Every one of you is considered family to us - the kind that you actually enjoy hanging around and can laugh with! We cannot wait to see all of you this summer.

Take care of each other. And rest easier knowing that Charlie & Cathy are again side-by-side watching over all of you (especially Max & Nicholas - so watch it boys!). They're watching over their princesses, Elizabeth, Katelyn, Hannah, & Maria, too, but certainly with much less trepidation! ;)
