Kathleen M. Gaynier, 59 of Monroe died at 2:05 a.m. Friday at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor. She had been in poor health for two years.
Friends may call from 12 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home, Monroe where the Lady Knights of Monroe Council # 1266 Knight of Columbus will recite a rosary at 7 p.m. She will lie in state at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church where the Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life will be at 10 a.m. The Rev. Marc Gawronski, pastor of the church will officiate. Cremation will follow.
Born June 3, 1951 in Monroe she was the daughter of Elton and Anita (Peters) VanWasshnova. Kathy graduated from Milan High School in 1969. After graduating she worked for Allied Foods in Ypsilanti. Kathy married James C. Gaynier July 1, 1972 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Milan.
A homemaker most of her life, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Monroe and a former member of its Christian Women. She was a member of Monroe Council # 1266 Ladies Auxiliary where she had been president several times. Kathleen was named “Lady Knight of the Year” on several occasions and had been selected with her husband and children as “Family of the Year”.
She bowled in several leagues in Monroe and enjoyed sewing and being with her grandchildren. Kathy had made more than 100 personalized baby blankets for friends and relatives over the years.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, James C. Gaynier of Monroe; son Joseph (Andrea) Gaynier of Toledo; daughter, Rebbecca Bruncak of North Olmstead, Ohio; son, Robert (Cassie) Gaynier of Independence, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Natalie Gaynier of Toledo, Alexander and Andrew Bruncak of North Olmstead, Ohio; mother, Anita VanWasshnova of Milan; brothers, Michael (Roberta) VanWasshnova of Ypsilanti, Donald (Mary) VanWasshnova of Ypsilanti, William (Christine) VanWasshnova of Milan, Dennis (Mary) VanWasshnova of Clinton, John (Cheryl) VanWasshnova of Milan; sisters, Mary (Dave) Kolesar of Penna Furnace, Pa. and Carol (Mike) King of Jacksonville, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elton and a brother, Carl.
Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Mary Church or SMCC.
