Ignatius J. Basile, 91 of Monroe died at 4:05 a.m. Thursday at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. He had been in poor health for one month.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Rev. William Fisher, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
Born November 14, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois he was the son of Christ and Florence (Tondola) Basile. He married Alta Doris Huey on February 2, 1962 in Chicago she preceded him in death on October 30, 2009.
During WW II he was employed at the bomber plant and then was a self employed shoemaker retiring in 1995.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Fraternal Order of Police and the Monroe Senior Citizens Center for the Deaf. He attended the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint and was a Golden Glove Boxer under Joe Giarmo.
Surviving are his daughters Teena Wilson of Pensacola, Florida and Irene Moore of Monroe; brother, William (Mary) Ziegler of Monroe; sisters, Carmella Hessen and Catherine “Kitty” (Martin) Nadeau both of Monroe; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Ignatius was preceded in death by his parents, step-father William Ziegler, Sr., son Richard I. Basile, brothers, Jim, Patsy, Christ and John Basile, and sister, Mary Kelly.
