Helen Rubel died suddenly at home in Monroe, December 11, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. She was 72 years old.

 

Helen was born in Monroe, MI to Frank and Elizabeth (Zahorn) Kekes, who preceded her in death. She worked as a line worker at the Ford Rawsonville Plant for 9 and a half years before taking a medical retirement.

 

In 1964, she married Charles Rubel at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Monroe. They divorced in 1967. Along with Holy Ghost, Helen belonged to Trinity Lutheran and Grace Lutheran churches. She enjoyed playing Bunco, her cats, and her pet possum. But above all else, Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, most notably her grandchildren, whom she adored.

 

She is survived by her two daughters: Elizabeth (David C. Hoffman) Rubel and Rebecca Meyer; two brothers: Bobby Kekes and Jody Cantwell; six grandchildren: Brandon Pope, Adam Pope, David Pope, Kenny Jopp, Andy Meyer, and Jonathon Meyer; and one great grandchild expected to arrive in May, Logan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Frank Michael Kekes.

 

Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Rupp Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

 

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Monroe County.
