SvendsenGordon Svendsen, age 90, of Monroe, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

 

Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2017, at Rupp Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017. Rev. Katie Waggoner, Pastor of Heritage United Methodist Church, will officiate. A private interment at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana, will be held at a later date.

 

Born January 11, 1927 in Morris, Illinois, he was the son of the late Holger and Edna (Bryant) Svendsen . Gordon married Lucille King on April 21, 1946 and Imogene Haddox, nee Woolem, on June 7, 1997 in Kokomo, Indiana. Sadly, Lucille preceded him in death on September 11, 1981. He worked at General Motors in the Fisher Body Plant, Marion Indiana, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the F & A Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and a Shriner for more than 50 years and rode with the Mizmur Scooter Patrol. Gordon enjoyed wood working, making custom cabinetry and could fix anything. He loved spending time camping, traveling and fishing.

 

To cherish his memory, Gordon leaves his loving wife of 20 years Imogene; two daughters, Mary (Gordon) Bowers of Madison, Alabama and Annette (Steven) Johnson of Monroe; one stepson, David Haddox of Monroe; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents and first wife, Lucille, he was preceded in death by one son, David Svendsen, and three brothers.

 

Memorial contributions in Gordon’s name are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children.
