Gasper Joseph “Gus” Gelardi

GelardiGasper Joseph “Gus” Gelardi, age 86, of Monroe, formerly of Toledo, passed away peacefully at 1:34 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the IHM Senior Living Community after a 14 month long battle with liver cancer.

 

Friends and family may visit Monday, November 20, 2017, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. services at Rupp Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. David Burgard, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, will officiate. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

 

Born September 10, 1931 in Dearborn, Michigan, he was the son of the late Frank and Antonina (Dara) Gelardi. Gus married Marlene I. Germoth on May 5, 1984 in Canton, Michigan. Sadly, she preceded him in death on April 15, 2015. He was employed with Detroit Edison as an Underground Line Supervisor for 43 years, retiring in February of 1991. Gus was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 60 years and the Detroit Energy Society. He coached football with the Dearborn Youth Association, coaching the Mustangs for more than ten years. Gus also coached football for several years at St. Michael Grade School.

 

To cherish his memory, Gasper leaves three children: Vincent Lee (Rose) Gelardi of West Palm Beach, Florida, Vicki Lynn (Daniel) Gelardi-White of Monroe, and Robert T. (Nichole) Gelardi of Toledo, Ohio; two stepchildren, Deborah Criscuolo of Indianapolis, Indiana and Paul Germouth of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; nine grandchildren: Nina Kohler, Ian Gelardi, Joseph Criscuolo, Kyle Criscuolo, Alexander White, Lauren White, Christopher Gelardi, Carrington Gelardi, and Joseph Gelardi; and eight great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, Gus was preceded in death by one brother, Salvatore Gelardi and one sister, Ann Giarmo.
