BurggraveEsther B. Burggrave, 90 of Monroe died at at 7:18 pm Tuesday at Brookdale Senior Living Claire Bridge while under the care of Heartland Hospice. She had been in poor health for one year.     

 Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 pm Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home where a Rosary service will be held at 7 pm She will lie instate 9 am Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the the Mass of the Resurrection at 10 am. Rev. James Smalarz will officiate with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Born October 7, 1924 in Monroe, she was the daughter of William and Eliza (Radcliff) Geno. She married Alfred H. Burggrave on May 23, 1945 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2008.

Esther was employed at the Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II, then the J.C. Penney Store,  the Lutheran Home and St. Mary Motherhouse.

She was a member of St. John Church, and a former member of the Altar Society.

Surviving are her children James (Linda) Burggrave and Shirley (Glenn) Smith both of Newport; brother Joseph (Rosemary) Geno of Toledo; ten grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Margrette Fuerstenberg, Lillian Bomia, Anna Marie St.Bernard, James Geno, William Geno, Mildred Pierce and Elizabeth Jackson.

    Shirley, Jim and families – I was saddened to hear of Aunt Esther’s death, although I know she is now without pain. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time of your loss.
