Elsie Lorena Jordan, 72 of Monroe died at 9:05 a.m. Sunday at Mercy Memorial Nursing Center where she had been for the last 4 ½ years. She had been in poor health for several years.

Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home, Monroe where a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ron Morgan, pastor of Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial of her ashes will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Born January 21, 1938 in Sneedville, Tennessee she was the daughter of Carrol and Lahoma (Shockley) Noe. She married James E. Jordan December 31, 1957 in Monroe. He preceded her in death on January 12, 2006.

Elsie had been employed by La-Z-Boy Chair Company as a stitcher for 14 years until the manufacturing plant closed. She then worked for Sharon Manufacturing until taking a medical retirement in 1990.

Elsie was a member of Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church and had come to Monroe in 1956 from Tazewell, Tennessee.

Surviving is a son, Russell D. “Dean” (Tonya) Jordan of Monroe; a daughter, Angela M. Jordan of Monroe; a brother, Edward Noe of Tennessee and a granddaughter, Adeana (Chris) Wittkop.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Roger “David” Jordan in 1999.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
