Elmer Skidmore, 85, of Monroe, passed away Thursday at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rupp Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday.  Rev. Kenneth Goins, pastor of Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and Rev. Ernest Fultz, pastor of Petersburg Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle with military honors provided by VFW Post 1138.

 

Elmer was born March 7, 1930 in Harlan, Kentucky.  He was the son of Green and Mary (Deaton) Skidmore.  He had been married to Betty Essary and then Dian Burchette.

 

He served his country in the US Army From August 1951 to April 1953.

 

He had been employed by Kelsy Hayes Wheel Company for 30 years retiring in 1991.

 

Elmer was a member of Hope Missionary Baptist Church, former member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church and also the VFW Post 1138.

 

He loved music and played the banjo for many years..  He also enjoyed woodworking and building birdhouses.

 

Elmer is survived by two sons, Todd (Corrie) Skidmore and Walter Randall (Judith) Skidmore both of Monroe; four brothers, Troy (Rachel) Skidmore of Tennessee, Don Skidmore of Kentucky, Randall (Vickie) Skidmore of Columbus, Ohio and Wayne (Lisa) Skidmore of Baxter, Kentucky; two sisters, Edith Ferrara of Monroe and Camelene West of London, Kentucky; three Grandchildren, Crystal Skidmore, Phillip Skidmore and Logan Skidmore and seven great grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by both of his wives, a brother, Kenneth Skidmore and two sisters, Frances Adkins and Jean Monday.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 1138.
