Elizabeth Stateler, 90, of Monroe passed away on Sunday at 2:59 a.m. at the home of her daughter Debra Spurlock. She had been in poor health for six months.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Evans Bentley, pastor of St. PaulUnitedMethodistChurch will officiate with burial to follow at RoselawnMemorial Park, LaSalle.
Born November 24, 1923 in Granite City, Illinois she was the daughter of Steve and Dovie (Taylor) Loncar. She married Galen Stateler on September 18, 1943 in Monroe. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2004.
Elizabeth was employed by the Monroe Auto Equipment Company, Holiday Inn and La-Z-Boy Chair all in Monroe.
She was a member of St. PaulUnitedMethodistChurch.
Prior to living at her daughters home she resided at ALCC and was loving cared for by her care givers and was affectionately named “firecracker” for her sense of humor and witty sarcasm. She was an avid gardener and her yard displayed hundreds of perennials and annuals of which she was able to name each one. A huge animal lover she had many pets over the years.
Surviving are her daughters Karen Veve of Dayton, Ohio and Debra (Curtis) Spurlock of Monroe; grandchildren C.J. Spurlock, Evan Spurlock, Michael Veve, Sarah Johnson and Jenny Steele and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sons, Dennis and Robert Stateler; brothers, Steve, George and Gene Loncar and a sister Marge Managhan.
Memorials may be made to the Mercy Memorial Hospice and the Monroe County Humane Society.
