Alfred J. “Hooker” Arenz, 77, of Monroe, passed away at 4:31 p.m. Tuesday at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit.

 

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rupp Funeral Home. He will lie instate at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with services at 11 a.m. Rev. Nate Fager, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

 

Alfred was born December 18, 1937 in Maybee. He was the son of Alfred H. and Esther M. (Boes) Arenz. He married Beverly Jones May 28, 1960.

 

He worked for Grand Trunk Railroad and Canadian Nation Railroad until retiring in 1999. He was also a lifelong farmer and grew everlasting flowers that he and his wife sold at craft shows and the Shipshawana flea market.

 

Alfred was a 1955 graduate of Dundee High School and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman.

 

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Arenz of Monroe; two daughters, Denise (Tom) D’Haene of Lewiston and LeAnn (Bill) Mooney of Monroe and four grandchildren, Heidi (Jake) Zeitz, Ryan D’Haene, Ashley Mooney and Brandon Mooney.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
